Assistant Professor of Neuroscience

Position Overview

The Neuroscience Program at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure‑track position, to begin September 1, 2027, at the rank of assistant professor. We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, particularly those with expertise in electrophysiology.

Shared teaching of Foundations in Neuroscience with accompanying laboratory, an upper‑level Neurobiology course with accompanying laboratory and a seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise. The typical teaching load is five courses spread over our three 10‑week terms per year. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research with undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment. Neuroscience faculty are expected to develop an active research program that engages Carleton undergraduates in scholarly contributions to their subfield.

PhD in Neuroscience or a related field. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. A completed Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field with postdoctoral experience is preferred, but candidates who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2027 will be considered. The expected starting salary range for this position is between $87,480−$93,290. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job‑related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
