Special Education Teacher (Long Term Substitute)

Watertown-Mayer High School, Watertown, MN Dates: 9/10/26-11/6/26

Job Summary:

The high school special education teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs while following due process guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, with a focus on meeting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and accommodations to support the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities in inclusive and resource settings.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated support for students with disabilities.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions and behavioral supports to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social interactions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, progress reports, and behavior intervention plans.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of best practices in special education and evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations governing special education services and maintain compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or building administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students with disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in special education and familiarity with behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary can be found on our union negotiated  contract; $239.02/daily rate. Benefits are not included with this position.
