Job Description
Arcadia Charter School, a progressive, project-based charter school serving grades 6-12, located in Northfield, MN, is seeking a STEM (physical sciences and mathematics) teacher and student advisor for the school year. Our mission is “to prepare our students to transition intellectually, emotionally, and ethically to higher education, future employment, and engaged citizenship.” We pride ourselves on creating meaningful educational experiences with our students in an inclusive, supportive community of learners.
The teaching role includes:
- one section of chemistry or physics (alternate years)
- one section of physical science
- one additional section of science (STEM-related elective or earth and space science) each quarter
- two year-long sections of mathematics
- support for students’ science, engineering, or math-related project work
The advisor role includes:
- project planning, logistics, assignment preparation and execution, in collaboration with an advisor team
- evaluations and assessments of daily work, project products, and presentations
- preparation for and evaluation of quarterly reflection papers and goal-setting work
- regular communication with families
- planning with support staff
- IEP meetings
- coordinating with special education teachers about students’ needs and accommodations/modifications
Qualified candidates will either possess or be working toward a Minnesota teaching license in a secondary science area (e.g. physics, chemistry) with a mathematics background or 5-12 Mathematics with a science background; a desire to teach physical science, including chemistry and physics, and mathematics is necessary. Experience with project-based learning and Developmental Designs would be ideal, but training in these areas will be provided.
