Long-Term Substitute Teacher – 8th Grade Social Studies Position Summary
Albany Area Schools is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered Long-Term Substitute Teacher for an 8th Grade Social Studies classroom. This position will provide continuity of instruction during a teacher's leave of absence. The ideal candidate will foster a positive and engaging learning environment while delivering meaningful instruction that encourages students to think critically, analyze historical events, and become informed citizens.
The teacher will implement existing curriculum and lesson plans while maintaining high expectations for student learning and behavior.
- Deliver engaging instruction aligned with the 8th Grade Social Studies curriculum and Minnesota Academic Standards.
- Implement existing lesson plans and instructional materials while maintaining continuity of learning.
- Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student success.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Assess student learning and provide timely feedback on assignments and classroom activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records.
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a smooth instructional experience.
- Communicate with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations as needed.
- Supervise students in the classroom and during assigned duties, ensuring a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Uphold district policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Social Studies or an appropriate secondary teaching licensure area.
- Experience teaching middle school students is preferred.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to seamlessly continue classroom instruction in a temporary teaching role.
