Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• AA degree or passing para examination with 90 days
• Ability to follow directions from a supervisor, and be a self-acting, quality-conscious worker
• Resourceful team player with the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize
• Tact, integrity, and the ability to maintain the confidential nature of various records, reports, and discussions
• Ability to maintain effective public relations with students, parents, and employees
• Proficient written, verbal, mathematical, and educational technology skills
• Willingness and ability to obtain CPR, CPI, or other certifications as directed by the district
• High level of patience, empathy, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting student development
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and bend for extended periods; ability to occasionally lift up to 30-50 lbs depending on student age group

General Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts under the direction of a teacher
• Assist students with assignments, reading, and remedial projects
• De-escalate challenging behaviors through targeted redirection, sensory breaks, and positive behavioral supports under the guidance of the lead teacher; ensure interactions do not trigger behaviors
• Gently redirect off-task students back to instructional activities
• Help modify instructional materials or adapt activities to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
• Support the use of educational technology and learning tools in the classroom
• Help maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom culture
• Supervise students during transitions between classes, morning duty, bus release, recess, lunch periods, assemblies, field trips, or other times as requested
• Chart behaviors and document as requested by the teacher
• Assist students with special needs in general education classrooms, ensuring accommodations outlined in their individualized education programs (IEPs) are met first; secondarily support general education students
• Provide physical or personal care assistance (e.g., mobility, feeding, or toileting) if required by specific student assignments
• Maintain high confidentiality regarding student records and progress in alignment with FERPA guidelines
• Provide supervision and oversight on school transportation, as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Employment Details

• Rate of pay:
  As per current master union contract
• Hour:
  Per program calendar / hours for ECFE (approx. 24 hrs per week)
