The Neuroscience Program at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track position, to begin September 1, 2027, at the rank of assistant professor. We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, particularly those with expertise in electrophysiology. Responsibilities include shared teaching of Foundations in Neuroscience with accompanying laboratory, an upper-level Neurobiology course with accompanying laboratory and a seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The typical teaching load is five courses spread over our three 10-week terms per year.

We seek applicants who are committed to furthering the College’s goals of providing an effective learning environment for all students. A completed Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field with postdoctoral experience is preferred, but applications who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2027 will be considered.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research with undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment. Neuroscience faculty are expected to develop an active research program that engages Carleton undergraduates in scholarly contributions to their subfield. The College offers support for faculty research programs, including research facilities, student stipends and support for grant writing. In addition, support for all aspects of faculty work is provided by a college mentoring program, cohort activities for new faculty, Provost Office support, and extensive optional programming by our Perlman Center for Learning and Teaching.

Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the breadth of our student body and American society. Groups historically under-represented at Carleton are strongly encouraged to apply.
