does a Layout Technician/CMM Programmer do?

As a newly appointed Layout Technician/CMM Programmer at EVCO Plastics, you can expect a structured Monday to Friday schedule that aligns with our commitment to precision in manufacturing. Each day will involve operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) using Calypso programming to verify product specifications. You will conduct detailed inspections of molded components, ensuring they meet rigorous quality standards.

Collaboration will be key; you'll work closely with engineers and other team members to interpret technical drawings and provide first‑article inspection results. Daily tasks may include troubleshooting measurement discrepancies and documenting practices diligently. Additionally, you will engage in training sessions to enhance your proficiency with various metrology equipment and software, ensuring you remain at the forefront of our technological advancements.

As your skills develop, you will progressively take on more complex projects, contributing to our innovative manufacturing and inspection process.

To excel as a Layout Technician/CMM Programmer at EVCO Plastics, a robust skill set is essential. Candidates should possess at least 3+ years of experience in Calypso programming, with a solid foundation in Zeiss CMM operations. Proficiency in software tools such as Excel is required, as you will regularly analyze data and compile reports. Familiarity with blueprint reading, tolerancing, and GD&T principles is crucial for accurately interpreting technical specifications.

Experience with PC‑DMIS programming, alongside knowledge of Hexagon and Brown & Sharpe CMM systems, will significantly enhance your capabilities. Additionally, expertise in Poly Works and a good understanding of ASME Y14.5 and ISO 1101/GPS standards will support your success in this role. Solid Works experience and fixture design competency are also highly advantageous, particularly for plastic injection molded part inspection.

This combination of skills will empower you to contribute effectively to our manufacturing processes and uphold our commitment to quality.
