Job Description

As an Electrical Designer II you are the bridge between Estimation and Operations. A central role within the engineering team, Design Engineers are responsible for developing detailed designs, using CAD software, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the feasibility and functionality of products. The Electrical Designer will work with our Estimators, Pre-Construction Team, Drafters, and Project Managers throughout the design phase until it is ready to hand off to our Operations team.

KE performs Design Build projects, nationwide, in a variety of industries including but not limited to Biodiesel & Ethanol production facilities, Grain storage, Fertilizer Terminals, Feed & Flour Mills, Dairy Processing plants, and Cement/Aggregate plants.

What You'll Do

You'll be part of a team that gets things done, works with purpose, and takes pride in the results. Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Assist design leads in customer/client design reviews
  • Complete conceptual engineering and design performing the following:
    • Sizing conduit/cable to serve electrical equipment such as MCC's, Switchboards, Panel boards, and Transformers
  • Verify vendor quotes and provide submittal packages
  • Comprehend MCC BOM's and quotes to ensure that sizing, layouts, and controller types are accurate
  • Comprehend Switchgear BOM's and quotes to ensure that sizing, layouts, and over current protection types are correct
  • Size conduits and cables to serve:
    • Motors, Controls and Instrumentation devices
    • General power and lighting branch circuiting
    • Low and Medium Voltage Distribution systems such as
  • Act as a bridge from estimating to operations or concept to reality
  • Periodic travel to customer sites as needed
Qualifications

What You Bring

You're someone who wants to learn, grow, and contribute to designing electrical infrastructure. Successful candidates typically bring:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, word, Excel, Teams)
  • Experience with Blue Beam and Excel
  • Knowledge of electrical construction practices or industrial electrical work. Commercial is fine but industrial is preferred
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code - NEC
  • Manage project files, drawings, documents & records in our project system
  • Journeyman Electricians License, a degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related, or equivalent combination of field experience/education
  • Knowledge of motor control devices such as VFD's, Soft Starts, Networked MCC's, and traditional across the line starters – beneficial
  • Experience with Special systems such as:
    • Network cabling
    • Instrumentation
    • Fire Alarm
    • Door access/Security systems
