Description of the Position:

To organize and manage House/Stage Crew student workers during official Music Department Events.

To provide excellent customer service to all audience members before, during, and after said events.

To assist all performers during their events as needed.

To ensure smooth operations at all official Music Department Events by:

Onboarding, training, and supporting new student employees

Resolving scheduling emergencies in the absence of full-time staff during evening and weekend hours, taking last-minute open shifts as their schedules allow

Establishing a positive rapport with all House/Stage crew and modeling positive interactions and public service

Delegating tasks and responsibilities to non-lead student employees

Regularly communicating operational details and observations with other House/Stage Managers and with staff

Establishing a welcoming and professional environment for all music department performers and audience members

Updating training materials as necessary

Assessing and providing feedback on the training and performance of other student employees

Participating in regular manager meetings (to be scheduled according to availability)

Job-Specific

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensuring the music event begins and ends on time.

Maintaining knowledge of Music Performance Spaces:
Urness Recital Hall, Studio A, and Boe Memorial Chapel and their inventories, including notifying college staff of anything in need of repair.

Enforcing backstage policies, keyboard moving guidelines, and other equipment care expectations library rules and policies for both guests patrons and student colleagues.

Performing PINK card taps through Presence (or through a back-up system) for student recital credit. Assessing and making the call if a back-up system is required for an event.

Training and guiding new student workers

Resolving evening/weekend scheduling emergencies, as schedule allows.

Prioritizing and delegating tasks, especially when House or Stage feels more overwhelming than the other.

Making Stage Announcement to signal the start of the recital.

All House/Stage Crew duties (listed below), including closing down the hall following the recital, ensuring everything is back in order.

House specific duties: opens the event doors for audience seating, hands out programs, collects PINK card taps for student degree credit, watches door for latecomers, helps the stage manager as needed.

Stage specific duties: sets stage before recital, completes stage transitions during the events, safely and efficiently. runs lights, assists performers as needed.

Hours:

As events require. At least three (3) House/Stage Manager shifts a month.

Qualifications:

(Education/Experience/Skills):

minimum of two semesters working as House/Stage Crew

ability to physically move and adjust heavy musical equipment, carefully and efficiently.

demonstrated ability to assist students, faculty, and staff in a proactive and positive manner

evidence of strong written communication, including timely responses to email

evidence of professionalism in both House and Stage Crew duties.

maintains professionalism and performs detail-oriented tasks with excellent accuracy and efficiency, in high pressure environments.

demonstrated reliability in shift attendance and written communication

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position requires crouching, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting objects up to 20 lbs., and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise and proximity hazards to perform the essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
