Job Summary
Merchants Bank (Northfield) is seeking a Universal Banker II. The role involves delivering exceptional customer service, proactively offering a range of banking products and services, and handling various banking and financial transactions including account inquiries, opening deposits, consumer lending, and product recommendations.
The position is full‑time, based in Northfield Downtown and South offices, with variable hours covering branch coverage and a Saturday morning rotation.
Responsibilities- Open and maintain basic checking and savings deposit accounts.
- Process banking transactions in the teller area.
- Open, close, and maintain safe deposit boxes.
- Serve as a vault attendant if needed.
- Open and maintain business accounts, IRAs, HSAs, CDs.
- Conduct community engagement and external sales activities as directed.
- Be proficient in consumer credit card and ODP lending.
- Perform administrative duties at the branch level.
- Provide exceptional customer service, greeting customers, conducting consultative conversations, resolving issues promptly, and utilizing systems such as internet banking and mobile banking.
- Build strong relationships with customers and internal teammates.
- Meet or exceed individual sales targets for banking products, conduct outbound sales activities, collaborate to achieve branch sales goals, and promote bank products.
- Maintain in‑depth knowledge of the bank’s products, services, and promotions, staying current on industry and regulatory updates.
- Complete required compliance training and certifications, adhere to privacy, security, and fraud prevention measures.
- Perform administrative and operational tasks related to account management, documentation, and audit compliance.
- Process financial transactions in the teller area, maintain balanced cash drawer, and meet productivity and accuracy standards.
- Participate in community activities, trade shows, and marketing events, and promote the bank.
- Work collaboratively with team members, follow supervisory guidance, maintain professional conduct, and ensure a positive workplace environment.
- Minimum of 6 months of front‑line banking experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with banking systems and technology (internet banking, mobile banking, phone banking).
- Sales experience and ability to meet sales targets.
- Strong math skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of compliance and regulatory guidelines.
- Capacity to work varied shifts, including Saturdays.
- Previous banking experience is a plus.
- Ability to adhere to security, fraud prevention, and audit requirements.

Physical Working ConditionsThe employee works in a climate‑controlled indoor environment with low noise. Duties require sitting, standing, and occasional lifting or moving up to 35 pounds. Extensive computer use is required.
