Salary Range:
- 2026: $36.29 to $47.79 DOQ
- 2027: $38.87 to $51.19 DOQ
Vacation Bonus:
- Non-probationary employees are granted credit for prior years of licensed law enforcement experience in accruing vacation benefits.
Specialized Pay Compensation:
- Field Training Officer, Firearms / Defensive Tactics Instructor, Crime Prevention Officer, School Resource Officer, Recreation / Zoning Office, SWAT/ERU, K9, and more.

Position Overview: Performs intermediate work patrolling county roads, observing for law violations, enforcing laws and ordinances, responding to calls for service, and completing required paperwork and reports under the limited supervision of the Sheriff.
Essential FunctionsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
- Conduct routine patrol of roadways, waterways, parks, trails, and cities or areas under contractual agreements for the purpose of protecting people and property by preventing crimes and enforcing statutes and ordinances.
- Respond to emergency radio calls and investigate accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, and domestic disputes.
- Conduct initial and follow‑up investigations, collect and analyze evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and prepare reports for use in prosecutions.
- Serve warrants, subpoenas, civil process papers, and other documents; provide witnesses and testify in court proceedings.
- Engage in community-oriented police work, attend community meetings, answer citizen inquiries, and provide public speaking on law enforcement topics.
- Coordinate activities with other law enforcement agencies, county and city departments, and the County Attorney staff to resolve criminal complaints.
- Maintain proficiency with weapons, use of force guidelines, and first aid, and administer first aid/CPR and AED when necessary.
- Attend all required training and keep up to date on policies, procedures, and changes in state and federal law.
- Extensive knowledge of modern methods of patrol, detection, identification, evidence handling, reporting, and communications.
- Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated physical fitness and ability to perform tasks requiring good stamina.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and effective relationship building with colleagues and the public.
- Capacity to exercise sound judgment, follow instructions, and make decisions in high‑stress situations.
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license without suspension or revocation and the ability to pass medical, physical, and written examinations.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate or Technical degree combined with moderate experience, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Special Qualifications- Must be Minnesota POST licensed or eligible to be licensed.
- Moderate experience as a full‑time sworn peace officer.
- Valid driver’s license in the State of Minnesota.
Authorized emergency vehicle, radio, radar, LIDAR, handgun, TASER, assault baton, handcuffs, intoxillizer, PBT, first aid equipment, personal computer, boats, snowmobiles, all‑terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, and related police safety equipment.
