Summary

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment, and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Job Duties
  • Provide quality care in multiple settings:
    Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated*
  • Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice*
  • Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed*
  • Effectively utilize nursing process:
    Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process. Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation*
  • Customer Service:
    Respects the privacy and dignity of every customer, internal or external. Is courteous and friendly, uses a quiet, respectful tone of voice when speaking with customers. Follows hospital policies regarding confidential or sensitive information; is Sensitive to cultural differences*
  • Initiative:
    Completes duties assigned without hesitation and in a timely manner; accepts direction well, is highly productive; works independently as position requires; accepts constructive criticism; demonstrates good time management skills; demonstrates a willingness to train new staff*
  • Teamwork:
    Welcomes/mentors newcomers; treats fellow employees with respect; cooperates with coworkers; actively participates in team discussions; does not chastise or embarrass fellow employees in the presence of others; offers encouragement to others praises when possible; supports organizational change and allows every opportunity for change to succeed*
  • Communications:
    Ensures all policies and procedures are followed 100% of the time which contributes to a safe and supportive work environment. Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies. Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output*
Required

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota
Certifications
  • Required at Hire:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Required Within 3 Months of Hire:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Required Within 6 Months of Hire:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Additional Training
  • All newly hired RNs will receive in‑house trauma training within the first year of employment.
  • This training meets the educational objectives of the Minnesota State Trauma System, unless the RN has previously completed one of the following:
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS)
    • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)
    • Certified Acute Trauma Nurse (CATN)
    • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Provides patient care to a general population. Shifts are rotating 12 hour including rotating weekends and holidays.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervisory responsibilities would include oversight to non-licensed personnel who may be assisting you with the care of your patients.
