Bilingual Research Services Professional (Entry/Intermediate – Community Health Worker and Data Collector)
The Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) is seeking a full-time Research Services Professional to join the growing Family Matters team (Principal Investigator: Dr. Jerica Berge). This is a great opportunity to be a part of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research that is making a difference in the lives of families with school-aged children around Denver, CO and the Twin Cities, MN.
This position reports to the Project Director. Because these studies involve families, all visits will need to occur when the family is available. Afternoon/evening and weekend visits are what we expect families to request.
As a data collector: you will play a vital role in supporting recruitment and retention efforts, as well as data collection on a large scale longitudinal cohort study collecting family-level data; will train and then carryout mixed-methods measures with families (e.g., anthropometry, mHealth technology, surveys, etc.); will use Red Cap and other programs to track families and measurement time points; and help develop protocols and materials for data collection with families;
and engage in video-recorded supervision to improve in measurement skills.
As a Community Health Worker (CHW), you will work on a team of CHWs who will work with 500+ families across Denver, CO and the Twin Cities, MN providing a 6-month intervention around improving the quality and quantity of family meals, using motivational interviewing and SMART goal setting. Some families will receive the intervention 100% virtually and others will receive a combination of virtual and in-person visits.
Virtual visits will take place out of the study's office at Anschutz medical campus, a secure location at the CHW's residence, and in-person visits will take place in participant's homes. The CHW will: work directly (in-person and virtual) with families to help them create healthy home environments; will develop and use Motivational Interviewing skills and SMART goal setting with families;
will engage in video-recorded supervision and feedback to improve their CHW skills and work with families to improve their home food environments; will oversee case management via Red Cap and other platforms to advance families in the Family Matters Program; will help develop program materials for families; and other activities related to advancing families in the Family Matters program.
Examples of Duties performed: 40%:
Engaging with families in intervention visits and tracking study progress Meet with families virtually and in-person at family's homes and deliver intervention around improving the quality and quantity of family meals Effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds in reducing barriers to having family meals and healthy home environments Serve as main contact and follow-up with assigned participants in between visits to provide support Document visit activities and feedback Continuously expand knowledge of community resources related to social determinants of health for intervention participants Other duties as assigned 10%:
Preparing for intervention visits Helping to create intervention materials for visits, including translating into Spanish. Review materials from intervention visits (e.g., video-recorded family meals) and prepare feedback for families Regularly check in with families Assist families with identifying necessary resources, such as food assistance Assist in developing program materials for families and translating materials into Spanish 30% Recruitment, Data Collection and Management Lead efforts to retain study participants over the course of study participation (12-18 months), which includes: developing and overseeing outreach processes, coordinating schedules, tracking progress and reporting results to Project Director and PI, updating Red Cap database and running regular quality assurance checks on data entry, and managing the delivery of incentives to participants by providing leadership to study staff as the point person for questions, or issues in the…
