Peer Recovery Coach

The Peer Recovery Coach provides culturally responsive, peer-based recovery support services to individuals impacted by substance use disorders, including those re-entering the community following treatment and those contemplating treatment engagement. Services are delivered using evidence-based and promising practices and are documented in accordance with grant, tribal, state, and federal reporting requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.

  • Provide individualized, strengths-based peer support services to individuals at various stages of recovery
  • Conduct outreach and engagement activities to connect with individuals not currently engaged in treatment or recovery services
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to support behavior change and recovery readiness
  • Assist individuals in developing and implementing personalized recovery plans
  • Connect individuals to treatment services, recovery supports, housing, employment, and community resources
  • Facilitate recovery groups, classes, and culturally relevant programming that support recovery
  • Assist in planning and implementing recovery-focused events and community education initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal staff, external providers, and community stakeholders to ensure coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and policies
  • Promote recovery awareness within the community
  • Track, document, and report service delivery and participant outcomes, including number of individuals served, engagement rates, referrals to treatment and support services, participation in recovery programming, and progress toward recovery goals, in alignment with grant and program requirements
  • Contribute to program effectiveness and continuous improvement by monitoring participant engagement and retention, supporting data collection efforts, and utilizing feedback and outcome measures to strengthen service delivery and community impact
  • Maintain professional and ethical boundaries in accordance with peer support standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
  • Demonstrated commitment to recovery and a healthy lifestyle
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Must pass drug screen (UA) and a federal criminal background check in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act
  • Valid Minnesota State Driver's License and Insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery pathways, and community resources
  • Associate degree or coursework in human services, behavioral health, or related field
  • Experience working in peer recovery, behavioral health, or community-based services
  • Experience with data collection, reporting, or grant-funded programs

Physical Demands:

  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking

Required Training:

  • Native American Peer Recovery Services Training
  • Any position-related training as determined by department manager

Working Environment:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
