Job Summary
Join a dedicated healthcare team as a Pharmacy Technician working full-time night shifts in a supportive and dynamic environment located in the Midwest region of the United States. This role involves delivering medications efficiently, maintaining automated dispensing cabinets, and assisting pharmacists with various tasks to ensure safe and accurate medication distribution.
Essential Responsibilities- Deliver medications promptly to nursing units and return items as needed, ensuring rounds are completed efficiently.
- Maintain and restock unit-based automated dispensing cabinets with accuracy, including verifying medication placement and expiration dates.
- Perform aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and sterile dosage forms following proper techniques and quality control documentation.
- Process floor stock requisitions, maintain appropriate logs, and manage stock levels on units, including removal of outdated medications.
- Handle controlled substances responsibly, including preparation of proof-of-use sheets, restocking, and proper disposal in compliance with regulations.
- Support pharmacists by assisting in order entry, labeling medications, answering department calls, and resolving issues or triaging as necessary.
- Restock anesthesia automated dispensing cabinets and other kits, ensuring accurate documentation and inventory management.
- Package bulk medications correctly, maintain controlled substance logs, and submit products for pharmacist final check before stocking.
- Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, using sound judgment and effective time management to meet workload demands.
- Assist other technician staff during low staffing periods within training limits.
- Answer telephone calls promptly with a customer-friendly approach, referring complex issues to pharmacists.
- Manage multiple priorities simultaneously and assist in training new employees and students as requested.
- Maintain a professional appearance and project a positive image for the department.
- Adaptable to change and interruptions, with a strong desire to improve skills and processes.
- Demonstrates initiative, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills, showing courtesy, compassion, and respect to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Supports team goals and values diversity and sensitivity in interactions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current valid State Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician in Training license.
- Obtain national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board within one year of hire.
- Maintain qualifications as outlined in the Pharmacy Department Technician Ladder for a Technician I position.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
This position requires independent decision-making, the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure, and coordination with coworkers. Standing or walking is required throughout shifts. The role involves exposure to blood borne pathogens and complies with OSHA safety standards. Scheduled for third shift hours, approximately 38.5 hours per week.
