Pay: $55,000 annually
This Chaplain Fellow will provide compassionate pastoral care to patients, families, and staff across the medical center while participating in a structured training program. The position is designed as a 50/50 role: half of the time dedicated to clinical chaplaincy and half dedicated to training as a Certified Educator Candidate (CEC) in spiritual care/clinical pastoral education.
Responsibilities- Provide pastoral care to patients, families, and staff.
- Conduct spiritual assessments to identify spiritual, religious, and emotional needs and resources.
- Offer spiritual and religious support tailored to the needs of patients and families.
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, contributing insights related to spiritual care and coping.
- Assist local clergy in supporting their congregants during hospitalization.
- Respond to medical team requests, including emergencies and trauma pages.
- Provide end‑of‑life spiritual care, support, and appropriate documentation.
- Support staff well‑being through informal and formal interventions, including debriefings when appropriate.
- Participate in an accredited Certified Educator Candidate training program.
- Engage in supervised education and formation processes to develop competency in clinical pastoral education.
- Facilitate and support Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs under supervision.
- Develop teaching, supervision, and evaluation skills for future CPE educator certification.
- Participate in regular supervision, peer group learning, and self‑reflection.
- Complete required competencies and benchmarks toward certification as a Certified Educator.
- Graduate‑level theological degree from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Accreditation.
- 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education as offered through an ACPE accredited organization.
- Ordination, current endorsement, or good standing in accordance with the requirements of one’s faith tradition or endorsing agency.
- Board Certification or eligibility for board certification recognized by professional chaplain associations (e.g., Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Association of Professional Chaplains, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains) or as agreed upon by the Director of the Center for Spiritual and Grief Care that meets the Common Qualifications and Competencies for Professional Chaplains.
- A positive recommendation for supervisory training from a previous CPE supervisor.
- Preferred: Previous experience in a healthcare or pediatric environment.
