Activity Aide Job Description

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM, every third weekend and holiday, 72-80 hours per pay period. Weekend hours fluctuate

Wage: $17.08 - $18.50 per hour

General

Job Responsibilities
  • Communication & Teamwork
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and cooperation with interdepartmental personnel and other departments within the facility to ensure all services and activities meet resident needs.
  • Environmental Care
  • Understand and perform job functions related to maintaining environmental care within the facility.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for residents.
  • Follow proper infection control practices in all aspects of work.
  • Safety Responsibilities
  • Recognize safety responsibilities for residents and report occupational hazards or injuries according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Recognize personal responsibility for safety while on the job and for the safety of others.
  • Identify and remove environmental dangers when possible.
  • Use safety devices appropriately and ensure proper implementation.
  • Equipment and Maintenance
  • Complete maintenance service request slips for equipment needing repair.
  • Include date, time, and signature on all requests.
  • Body Mechanics and Lifting
  • Apply proper body mechanics when lifting and moving objects.
  • Use appropriate transfer techniques consistent with safe lifting practices.
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Participate in disaster drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when scheduled or on duty.
  • Develop knowledge of procedures for emergency situations.
  • Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures.
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in tense or emergency situations.
  • Policy Compliance
Employees Must
  • Report absences according to policy.
  • Arrive on time and work scheduled shifts.
  • Communicate suggestions, concerns, or grievances constructively.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding work-related staff situations.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene and professional grooming.
  • Wear appropriate uniform attire.
Dress Code
  • Jeans may be worn on Fridays per the personnel policy manual.
  • No open-toed shoes are allowed for direct care staff.
Activity Aide Responsibilities Resident Activities
  • Assist with or lead assigned group and one-to-one activity programs.
  • Assist residents to and from activity programs.
Resident Monitoring
  • Report any changes in resident behavior, safety hazards, or procedural concerns to appropriate staff.
Activity Planning
  • Distribute monthly activity calendars to residents and designated areas.
  • Assist with evaluating residents based on:
    • Background
    • Activity interests
    • Abilities
    • Physical limitations
    • Needs for meaningful activity programs.
Documentation
  • Maintain up-to-date daily attendance records for each resident participating in activities.
Environment & Decorations
  • Develop and display seasonal or holiday decorations.
  • Assist with maintaining planters, flowers, and bird feeders as needed.
Volunteer Support
  • Assist and provide direction to volunteers when necessary.
Resident Mail
  • Ensure resident mail is delivered appropriately. (Applies to Care Center residents only.)
Meetings & Training
  • Attend and participate in:
    • Staff meetings
    • Care plan meetings
    • In-service training programs
    • Other meetings as assigned.
