Access Advocate | Patient Registration Specialist
This role supports patients, associates, and third-party payers by efficiently managing Patient Access and Revenue Cycle responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Greet all patients and visitors warmly, creating a welcoming first impression.
- Adhere strictly to privacy policies, HIPAA regulations, and patient confidentiality standards.
- Accurately process pre-registration and registration for all patient types, ensuring no duplicate medical records or account numbers are created. Tasks include scanning insurance cards, interpreting insurance responses, obtaining necessary signatures, and directing patients to appropriate departments.
- Refer self-pay patients to navigators for Medicaid or Health Exchange enrollment.
- Provide cost estimates to patients upon request.
- Collect patient copays following established guidelines.
- Perform general administrative duties as assigned.
Additional PBX Operator Duties:
- Operate the switchboard and manage public address announcements.
- Handle emergency codes, overhead paging, and contact appropriate authorities.
- Forward mail to discharged patients.
- Receive, record, and relay messages for physicians on the answering service.
- Contact other physicians as needed.
- Maintain and document on-call schedules and special instructions using the Diagnotes system.
- Notify supervisors of any changes or issues related to on-call systems and operator resources.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of customer service, administrative, or data entry experience required.
- Healthcare environment experience preferred.
- Familiarity with database software applications is desirable.
- Vocational training or on-the-job experience with computer and switchboard operations is beneficial.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare business office procedures is helpful.
Work Shift:
Overnight third shift in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States. Scheduled Weekly
