This role requires being onsite, with regularly scheduled travel to all Voyager locations.

The Role

The Human Resources & Safety Specialist is professional member of the HR & Safety team, working alongside the HR Manager to support employees, leaders, the operations across Voyager locations. This position will independently manage assigned areas of responsibility and will actively participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HR and Safety programs, policies, processes, and training. The Specialist serves as a knowledgeable resource to employees and leaders and helps ensure consistent, practical, and compliant HR and Safety practices across the organization.

What You’ll Do:

HR Functions:

  • Serve as a day-to-day HR resource for employees and leaders, independently responding to routine questions and escalating complex or sensitive matters as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and conduct new hire orientation and support employee onboarding and training activities.
  • Identify gaps or opportunities within HR processes and recommend practical improvements to the HR Manager.
  • Maintain HRIS data, personnel records, employee files, required documentation, and HR reporting.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, review and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, programs, forms, and employee communications.

Safety Functions:

  • Actively participate in the safety program and serve as a Safety resource to employees, supervisors, safety leads, and managers.
  • Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and activities, including agendas, minutes, documentation, and follow-up on identified action items.
  • Conduct and participate in routine safety walks, facility audits, job safety analyses, hazard assessments, and corrective-action tracking across Voyager locations.
  • Identify safety program gaps, reoccurring concerns, and opportunities for improvement and bring forward for action.
  • Coordinate and track required safety training and conduct training within areas of qualification and assigned responsibility.

Professional Responsibility:
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement within assigned areas of responsibility while recognizing when to elevate matters to the HR Manager
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive matters related to employees, medical, and business information
  • Work collaboratively with the HR Manager to prioritize department needs and provide continuity across HR and Safety responsibilities
  • Build effective relationships with employees and leaders and maintain a visible presence across all locations
Job Requirements:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Occupational Safety or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in HR, workplace safety, employee support, or a related professional role preferred; manufacturing experience is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of HR practices and workplace safety principles, with the ability and willingness to continue developing expertise in both areas.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, attention to detail, and follow-through skills.
  • Previous experience with HRIS systems preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly between Voyager locations.
