Pine River-Backus Schools is seeking a full-time Technology Director to begin as soon as practicable. We offer a competitive salary and benefit package including group health insurance, life insurance, LTD, paid sick leave, paid vacation, holiday pay and a pension plan. The anticipated salary range is $75,000-$90,000 with placement determined by experience, skills and qualifications.
Job Title: Technology Director
Accountability: Superintendent
Job Summary: To provide students and staff with knowledgeable and professional technology service in an efficient and timely manner so that the overall district educational objectives may be achieved.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Performs all functions and procedures to install and maintain school network hardware and software.
- Supervise technology personnel.
- Configures local workstations as needed.
- Develops and maintains network procedures to ensure regular system backups on a timely basis.
- Establishes and maintains network security.
- Installs and supports school-wide software applications.
- Evaluates the performance of hardware and software and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Coordinate the use of technology by staff and students.
- Implements training for teachers and staff to ensure appropriate awareness of current software and hardware.
- Provides support in use of technology including classroom visitation, walk-in support and telephone support.
- Facilitates staff participation in the evaluation and selection of new hardware, software and materials to support instructional objectives.
- Helps each staff member to assess how technology can best be used in area curriculum.
- Maintains and coordinates the school website.
- Purchase hardware, software and networking systems.
- Coordinates the purchase of technology equipment and materials in a manner that effectively implements the long-range technology plan.
- Manages the technology budget and the distribution of resources.
- Reviews invoices for accuracy, approves and submits to District Office for processing.
- Ensures software in the school is properly licensed and maintains related records.
- Professional responsibilities.
- Develops and facilitates district-wide technology plan.
- Coordinates E-Rate filing.
- Participates in technology conferences and professional growth activities to update awareness of current software and hardware.
- Participates in meetings, such as: building staff meetings, department meetings, staff development meetings, open houses, others as needed.
- Keeps informed of new technology and applications.
- Physical Involvement:
- Vitality to accomplish numerous tasks and processes.
- Extended periods of standing.
- Sitting in same position for extended periods of time with continual computer keyboarding.
- Ability to travel between buildings, within the buildings and work areas.
- May lift equipment or supplies typically not to exceed 50 pounds.
- Mental Involvement:
- Ability to work with interruptions, multi-task, and organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills needed in dealing with students, parents and colleagues.
- Takes initiative to explore new technology.
- Working Conditions:
- Office setting that is in a school building with little exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Exposure to server and electrical equipment noise.
- Frequent exposure to printer inks and toners.
- Supervision of Other Employees:
- Provides direction and supervision to Technology Specialists.
- Education:
- BA or BS degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with technology integration and network administration required.
- Special knowledge or skills:
- Ability to constantly make decisions and act within the district and building policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Strong leadership and time management skills.
- Knowledge in educational technology and network administration.
- Maintains a positive, cooperative and respectful attitude with students, parents, employees and community members.
- Provides expertise, technical support and guidance that will encourage students and staff to make full use of available educational technology.
- Identify, troubleshoot and/or incorporate the appropriate assistance to deal with hardware, software and network issues.
- Ensures daily computer and network operations run efficiently and smoothly.
- Supports teachers and staff by providing services, hardware and software for activities and classroom use.
