Job Summary
The 911 Dispatcher is responsible for the communication between the public and the law enforcement officers, ambulances and fire departments.
Qualifications- High School graduate or equivalent plus one year
- 1‑2 years experience in customer service, secretarial or medical settings
- No felonies or gross misdemeanors
- Valid driver’s license
- Operate computer, telephones, radio, doors, visitation system, and intercoms simultaneously.
- Maintain CJIS, BCA, and CPR certification.
- Maintain ProQA medical dispatch requirements and certifications.
- Maintain overall jail security, including key control.
- Answer emergent and non‑emergent phone calls; respond to duress alarms.
- Dispatch appropriate units to calls, including law enforcement, fire, and EMS.
- Accurately create and complete ICRs for report based calls.
- Provide pertinent pre‑arrival information to all units.
- Receive findings from units on scene to determine need for additional resources.
- Dispatch additional resources via radio, phone, pagers, and teletype.
- Maintain LE and medical safety by performing timely status checks.
- Maintain RMS with accuracy and completeness.
- Prioritize calls.
- Direct and assist the public.
- Monitor and control security interlocks and cameras building‑wide and specific areas of the courthouse.
- Maintain and monitor communication with jail staff including phone, radio, and intercom calls.
- Oversee persons entering and exiting the jail/jail lobby.
- Dispatch EMS services for their calls of service.
- Maintain computer log of all non‑ICR information received.
- Enter, validate, and maintain restraining order and warrant files.
- Search Statewide Supervision site for criminal history and active supervision.
- Run Criminal Histories.
- Provide information/communication/data to law enforcement and other agencies.
- Maintain cleanliness in the Dispatch Center.
- Daily pager tests.
- Respond to intercom calls from inmates.
- Oversee and conduct transport of inmates.
- Direct public to appropriate agency or person to help locate information.
- Answer questions from the public requiring knowledge of law.
- Update, cancel, and validate CJIS files.
- Receive bail/bond funds; accurately receive and record financial transactions, and ensure compliance with cash‑handling policies and procedures.
- Monitor weather and alert proper units in the event of a weather emergency.
- Provide answering service for Mora Public Utilities and East Central Electric.
- Activate and deactivate civil defense sirens.
- Perform radio checks.
- Conduct pat‑down searches on inmates.
- Assist jail when needed.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all departmental and county policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform all duties safely and efficiently.
- Exhibit the qualities of public service, excellence, and integrity expected of staff.
- Develop respectful and cooperative relationships with coworkers, including assisting newer staff to gain confidence.
- Keep immediate supervisor informed of important matters pertaining to the position.
- Represent Kanabec County professionally to the public and external contacts.
