PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position will enforce all local, state and federal laws, provide and serve the citizens of the County and the State, render aid during emergency situations or disasters, investigate criminal offenses, make arrests, and aid in successfully obtaining convictions in a Court of Law.
WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability to analyze various situations and react accordingly within split seconds. Tactfully, efficiently, and effectively communicate with the public when obtaining sensitive information regarding investigations. Essential to keep individuals subdued during arrest and/or transport. Knowledgeable in the following areas: criminal investigations, interrogation, rules of evidence, preservation of evidence, death investigation, jail security, communications practices, federal, state and local laws, procedures for settling internal grievances, promotion of high morale in the department, and knowledge of Courts.
Knowledge, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a relatively short period of time, of street and highway systems, geography of the County, and the location of buildings and areas requiring special law enforcement services. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations.
MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE OR CERTIFICATIONS: Minimum of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice. Must be a full-time POST licensed peace officer or POST licensed eligible. Must be a United States Citizen. Must have no felony convictions. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy to very heavy physical activities requiring climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and control of others. The employee must exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Work in the field will include exposure to weather, noise, confined/restricted areas, as well as inside work in an office setting.
