POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible in cooperation with the Maintenance Director for the overall maintenance of the facility. By performing repairs and maintenance on equipment and supplies, ordering and requisitioning supplies and equipment as needed. They perform regular scheduled maintenance checks and documents them as needed. The position assists in the evaluation and efficient operation of all systems and equipment and recommends changes, as necessary.

ESSENTIAL

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Assists the Maintenance Director in Planning, Organizing and Maintaining a Clean and Safe Environment for Residents, Staff and Visitors. Assists in the Efficient Operation of the Maintenance Department
  • Knows and follows federal and state regulations for physical plant maintenance while performing daily maintenance requests.

  • Follows procedures and maintains fire alarm system per procedure and schedule of facility.

  • Knows and follows procedures and maintains emergency electrical systems.

  • Knows and follows procedures and maintains HVAC (heating, ventilating, air conditioning) systems.

  • Knows and follows procedures and maintains water and sewage systems.

  • Knows and follows all preventative maintenance programs and procedures as directed, documenting actions as needed.

  • Performs routine maintenance and repair work in coordination with other departments. Maintains documentation as needed.

  • Properly maintains the facility’s outside areas as directed by supervisor.

  • Eliminates and prevents safety hazards relevant to the maintenance department.

  • Knows and follows infection/safety control policies and procedures of the facility as seen by frequent handwashing, wipes up spills and wet areas, puts away equipment after use, etc.

  • Assists with the coordination of preventive maintenance contract visits as directed by supervisor.

Assists the Maintenance Director with Ordering, Receiving and Storage of New Equipment and Supplies Pertinent to the Maintenance Department
  • Orders supplies and equipment for maintenance departments as directed.

  • Maintains inventory of equipment as needed.

  • Reports, repairs or replaces equipment as needed.

  • Documents specific purchases and completes purchase orders and invoice cancellations as directed.

Promotes and Establishes Healthy Relationships and Uses Professional Conduct with Supervisors, other Health Care Professionals, Residents, Families, Visitors, and Co-Workers
  • Is courteous and cooperative with residents, families, visitors, supervisors and co-workers.

  • Always maintains resident and personnel confidentiality. Understands the need for complete privacy of all health care data.

  • Maintains dress code - adequately avoids the use of attire or accessories that could pose safety hazard to self or others. Wears name tag and limits personal phone calls.

  • Abides by and promotes customer service and the Continuous Quality Improvement program of Monarch Healthcare Management.

FACILITY COMPLIANCE
  • Participates in Inspections and Audits of Department to Maintain Safety and Sanitary Conditions.

  • Identifies areas of problem/needs through surveys and communicates these to department director as needed.

  • Attends and participates in workshops/in-services pertinent to maintenance department.

  • Maintains knowledge of job and follows current policies and procedures as outlined by Monarch Healthcare Management.

  • Attends all staff education of the Rehabilitation Center relating to safety, infection control and disease process.

  • Attends educational programs on Continuous Quality Improvement, customer satisfaction and other such programs.

  • Maintains current knowledge of Minnesota Department of Health regulations.

  • Promotes a highly positive workplace centered on strong customer service, inclusivity and ensuring staff feel welcome and supported.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Must have thorough knowledge of general maintenance, such as: boilers, heating and air conditioning units, refrigerators and freezers, electrical wiring, etc. Boiler license is strongly recommended.

  • Must possess leadership ability and the ability and willingness to cooperate and communicate with all staff and Department Directors.
