Overview
Lead Environmental Excellence at the Heart of Africa’s Mining Sector. This role requires a seasoned environmental professional who can develop strategy, ensure compliance, and lead environmental governance across multiple sites. You will manage a team, oversee key environmental programs, and partner with authorities, stakeholders, and internal teams to uphold the highest standards of sustainability.
Responsibilities- Environmental Strategy & Governance:
- Develop and implement corporate environmental strategies and action plans.
- Lead sustainable procurement initiatives for all goods and services.
- Establish and manage environmental policies, practices, and management systems.
- Regulatory Compliance & Engagement:
- Ensure compliance with national (DRC), UN, and international environmental regulations.
- Liaise with authorities, regulatory bodies, and public institutions.
- Coordinate environmental public hearings, consultations, and external engagements.
- Environmental Operations & Monitoring:
- Oversee pollution control, waste management, recycling, and conservation activities.
- Manage renewable energy integration and environmental health programs.
- Conduct environmental audits, impact assessments, and risk analysis.
- Report on environmental performance to internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Sustainability Leadership:
- Promote environmental awareness across all organizational levels.
- Drive corporate, ethical, and social responsibility initiatives.
- Set and track sustainability targets and ensure effective delivery.
- Training & Capacity Building:
- Train staff at all levels on environmental responsibilities.
- Support education, research, and continuous improvement programs.
- Reporting & Cost Management:
- Lead the preparation of environmental reports.
- Negotiate service agreements, monitor costs, and manage environmental budgets.
- PhD or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Background in ESG practices (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
- Preferred academic backgrounds include:
- Bioscience;
- Earth sciences;
- Ecology;
- Environmental engineering;
- Environmental health;
- Energy studies; and/or
- Sustainability-focused engineering.
- Strong leadership and change management capabilities
- Ability to manage stakeholder and client relationships
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office)
- Analytical thinker with problem‑solving capability
- Initiative‑driven with a systems‑thinking approach
- High commercial awareness
- Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
- Self‑motivated and able to motivate teams at all levels
- Presentation and project management skills
- Ability to build effective internal and external networks
