Training/Arrival Period (Required):

Move-in to the Residence Halls, Wednesday, September 2nd; 4:00 p.m.

- 10:00 p.m.

Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m.

- 7:00 p.m.

New Student Move-in:
Friday, September 4; 7:00 a.m.

- 3:00 p.m.

Move-in Transition:
Saturday, September 5 - Sunday, September 6

Dates without time frames will be defined for the staff member during the Training.

I. Description/Purpose of the Position:
The Residential Health & Safety Manager (RHSM) is a student staff position in the office of Residence Life. This position’s primary goal is to support Residence Life and the functional area, Housing Operations. The RHSM provides support in the following areas: facilities, residence halls, environmental health and safety, sustainability, and administrative tasks. The RHSM will be reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct /designee.

Leadership:
Serving as a primary role model for safety compliance and training peer staff on emergency response protocols.

Communication:
Articulating complex safety mandates clearly and compassionately to the residential community during high-stress situations

Position Responsibilities:

Supervision/Administrative Responsibilities:

Periodic supervision of Residential Facility Assistants (RFAs)

Receive, sort, and distribute supplies and inventory audit

Receive phone calls, mail, emails, and all other communication and ensure they are properly distributed

Support data entry and assist with creating and maintaining department files, records, and storage systems (physical and electronic)

Assist with housing records, damage bills, etc

Attend all training, in-services, and development meetings requested by the Residence Life Office

Manage office email accounts

Support the opening and closing of the office

RHSM shall support their professional supervisor through administrative tasks as assigned, including but not limited to:

Bi-weekly individual meetings with a professional supervisor

Documentation of on-duty activities

Weekly reports

Program Evaluations

Adherence to any blackout dates provided by professional staff to ensure adequate staffing during high-need periods

Other duties assigned

Fire

Conduct building walk-throughs

Conduct room inspections and inventories

Assist HOC on fire drills and drug sweeps

Escort vendors within the residence halls

Support the evaluation of residential safety initiatives

Identification, documentation, and reporting of maintenance/facilities/health and safety concerns or emergencies

Health

Coordinate room health and safety checks

Outreach to on-campus residents on safety and security concerns

Maintain bulletin board material for ADOFS boards in halls

Coordinate education material for issues related to topics, including mold/mildew/ pest control and sustainability

Safety

Assist in the training of contracted security staff

Generate reports on contracted security monthly/semester to the supervisor

Conduct performance and quality inspections on contracted staff

Conduct a monthly meeting with contracted staff leadership

Coordinate Campus Housing Safety Walks

Coordinate quarterly checks of surveillance cameras

Coordinate updates of manuals, including but not limited to the Building Emergency Awareness Plan (BEAP)

Publications and Communication:

Maintain supply of needed forms for facilities area: sustainability and recycling materials and signage, cleaning checklists, fire safety checklists, check-in/out forms, check-in packet material, and fire safety brochures

Aid in creating and updating files on health and safety

Create signs for halls as needed to update on facility-related issues

Maintain marketing materials for the facilities team
