Job Summary

The Agronomy Applicator is responsible for correctly applying dry fertilizers and pesticides to customer fields and operating all applicator equipment, including performing maintenance on the equipment.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Follow all Safety, Environmental, and Health policies and programs
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures in compliance with company and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DNT, DOT, etc.)
  • Report unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor
  • Ensure PGP is adhering to all MDA (MN Dept. Ag) regulations
  • Maintain good neighbor policy and prevent spills of chemicals and petroleum through preventative inspections
  • Clean up and report chemical and oil spills
  • Apply fertilizer and chemicals with precision on customer fields
  • Maintain technical updates of machines and software
  • Maintain working knowledge of rates and use of agricultural chemicals and surfactants
  • Report equipment in need of repair to supervisor
  • Repair common equipment problems independently without calling for help
  • Operate fertilizer plant and chemical storage area: unload incoming fertilizer trucks, load fertilizer and seed for customers, unload or load seed from delivery trucks
  • Maintain and service all equipment in plant and storage area; perform housekeeping weekly or monthly
  • Maintain and perform general maintenance of all buildings, keeping them in good shape
  • Maintain shop area in an orderly appearance per Good Neighbor Policy and ensure all safeguards are in place on tools or surrounding area
  • Perform preventative maintenance of rolling stock: follow schedules, clean equipment, wash outsides of equipment, clean cabs, report repair needs, forward PM reports to Clarkfield main office
  • Maintain a logbook of all weekly inspections and cleanings; forward completed weekly reports to Clarkfield main office before month end
  • Drive tender truck when needed; assist PGP in other locations when required
  • Assist customers with products purchased at PGP
  • Responsible for all maintenance and records of location rolling stock and buildings; follow seasonal tasks in a timely manner
  • Perform snow removal, lawn mowing, and other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Background in agriculture with custom application, chemical mixing, and handling experience
  • Must be 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States
  • English proficiency
  • Approved pre‑employment drug screen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays as needed
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Chemical Handlers & Seed Treatment License (Prairie Grain Partners may assist in obtaining if not already held)
  • Commercial Applicator License Category A & C (Prairie Grain Partners may assist in obtaining if not already held)
  • Class A Commercial driver’s license
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally required to taste or smell
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Ability to work up to 80 hours during certain times of the year
  • Regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, vibration, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high precarious places, extreme cold, and extreme heat
  • Noise level is usually loud
  • Safety sensitive position
