Position Summary

Working supervisory responsibility and coordination for overall plant maintenance, equipment repairs, fire protection system, monitor calibration, utility contractor scheduling, and buildings/grounds. Responsibility includes maintaining the safety program for the site. Responsible for maintenance inventory and parts ordering and preventative maintenance programs.

Essential Functions
  • Supervisory responsibility for Maintenance and Safety Committee
  • Performs duties of Maintenance as necessary; performs other related duties as directed by the Plant Manager
  • Communicates with and informs Production Supervisors on planned maintenance activities
  • Maintains site sanitation logs including all daily and weekly production sheets
  • Runs a shift of production once per week to experience equipment operation first-hand
  • Schedules and coordinates fire protection equipment testing
  • Schedules preventative maintenance of utility equipment by contractors
  • Maintains plant buildings and grounds
  • Prepares requisitions for safety supplies, janitorial items, spare parts, and equipment. Issues purchase orders to vendors once requisitions are released by the Plant Manager
  • Ensures that applicable safety permits are in place before work is started
  • Supervises and performs electrical work such as installing and repairing electrical motors, air compressors, wiring, fixtures, and switches; investigates and remedies electrical failure or problems
  • Supervises and performs mechanical operations to maintain mixers, silos, wet and twin screws, disintegrator, slide gate, dryer, classifier, dust collector, and related equipment
  • Supervises and performs mechanical operations to maintain tractors, forklifts, floor scrubber, and related equipment including hydraulic systems, repairing failing or broken parts, ensuring proper fuel supply, changing oil, lubrication, and tire pressure using machines such as hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Maintains the evaporator pond and oil/water runoff from the compressor and boiler; works to ensure that no contamination is put into the ground or water table
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as pipe threading machine, grinder, pressure washer, etc. to perform general job duties
  • Maintains personal protective equipment through supervised scheduling of safety equipment inspections
  • Maintains standard preventative maintenance program and the associated records for all plant equipment
  • Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards; works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site
  • Coordinates with Plant Manager monthly safety meetings
  • Participates as a member of the site HACCP team
  • Requirements
    • High school education, vocational level training, or its equivalent involving skills such as electricity, mechanics, pipe fitting, building trades, and completion of site welding certification
    • At least 5 years of prior maintenance experience in an industrial setting
    • Possession of a Minnesota class 2B boilers license is required.
    Working Conditions
    • Physical activity throughout the day such as lifting, pulling, reaching, stooping, balancing, walking, standing, repetitive motion, and moving objects up to 60 lbs.
    • Ability to operate industrial machinery, work on a computer, and travel on specific assignments; work may involve entering areas with restricted or limited access.
    • Operates a variety of hand-held power and mechanical tools as well as vehicles
    • Works inside and outside
    • Noise above ambient level, proximity to moving mechanical parts and will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, gloves, goggles, face shields, and other protective equipment as required by the specific job assignment.
