Job SummaryThe Painter is responsible for applying paint and coatings with electrostatic or air‑assist paint guns and other automotive type devices on company products, including military‑spec paint. The position requires knowledge and skills to perform in all areas of the paint process and to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Responsibilities- Prime, paint, and touch‑up vehicles using power spray equipment and brushes.
- Flush tanks, hoses, and guns before color changeovers.
- Mix paints and chemicals to achieve proper color, formula, viscosity, and consistency; perform titrations and adjustments as needed.
- Maintain 6S standards and follow safety procedures while assembling and testing all models/products.
- Inspect parts before, during, and after the paint process to ensure specifications are met.
- Sand, wash, and condition parts; perform light bodywork as required.
- Apply decals, stencils, and rust‑proofing where indicated.
- Assist in training new team members on processes and equipment.
- Participate in onboarding and annual hazardous‑waste handler training per EPA RCRA regulations.
- Disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble painting equipment as necessary.
- Six (6) months of industrial painting experience or completion of an internal paint training program.
- Ability to read checklists, paint codes, safety logs, JSA’s, SWI’s, etc.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Automotive paint experience.
- Willingness to train in multiple areas to achieve Painter II level.
- Capability to paint in a single assigned area.
- Ability to perform mill checks and readings, assist with paint prep (Riceville only).
- Ability to execute fine‑line painting technique (Riceville only).
- Communicate effectively with peers and external contacts to gather and share information.
- Read and interpret safety rules and operational manuals.
- Make decisions within routine scope and follow instructions.
Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and handling materials up to 25lb. The environment involves dust, temperature extremes, and loud noises. The schedule consists of routine shift hours with occasional overtime or weekend work.
