Job SummaryLJP Waste Solutions is seeking a full-time 3rd Shift Supervisor, Monday–Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
The 3rd Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all overnight plant operations, ensuring materials move efficiently and safely from the transfer floor through the compactor and shredder systems. This role directly supervises equipment operators and plant personnel, enforces safety and quality standards, troubleshoots operational issues in real time, and serves as the primary point of contact for the shift.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is safety-focused, decisive, and comfortable managing people and priorities independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Supervise and coordinate 3rd shift personnel, including equipment operators and general laborers, to maintain steady production flow
- Assign tasks and staffing coverage across the shift; adjust workflow to meet production and processing targets
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate priorities, safety topics, and operational updates
- Monitor incoming materials and processing operations for contamination, prohibited items, or safety hazards; direct corrective action
- Enforce all company safety procedures, environmental regulations, and operational policies across the shift
- Coordinate with maintenance staff to address equipment issues promptly and minimize downtime
- Address employee attendance, performance, and conduct issues; escalate to plant management or HR as needed
- Train, coach, and develop shift employees; ensure adequate cross-training and coverage
- Complete shift reports, production logs, and incident documentation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for 3rd shift operations and communicate key updates to day-shift leadership during handoff
- Respond to and manage emergency situations or operational disruptions
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the facility
- Support overall plant operations and perform additional duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in waste management, recycling, manufacturing, or industrial operations
- Prior experience overseeing heavy equipment operations (front end loaders, forklifts, or similar) strongly preferred
- Experience in waste management, recycling, construction, or environmental services industries preferred
- Strong leadership, delegation, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to make sound decisions independently and under pressure
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, and related standards)
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Basic proficiency with shift reporting, production logs, and related documentation
- Ability to walk the plant floor and stand for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, climb, and move throughout an active industrial facility
- Ability to work overnight, Monday–Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Exposure to an outdoor and industrial environment, including varying weather conditions and temperatures
- Exposure to noise, dust, and odors typical of a waste and recycling processing facility
