Job Description

This lab technician role focuses on supporting a commercial pharmacy production environment by preparing medications for compounding, assisting pharmacists with day-to-day operations, and managing the shipping and receiving of finished pharmaceutical products. The position involves hands-on work with compounding equipment, sterile production in clean rooms, and adherence to strict quality assurance and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

+ Prepare medications for compounding in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.

+ Assist pharmacists with daily operational tasks in a commercial pharmacy setting.

+ Operate powder machines, tablet and capsule grinding equipment, and other production machinery safely and accurately.

+ Perform sterile compounding activities in a cleanroom environment while following all safety and cleanliness protocols.

+ Ensure correct weights, measurements, and quantities for all compounded and packaged products.

+ Package finished pharmaceutical products and prepare them for shipment in compliance with shipping guidelines.

+ Handle shipping and receiving of finished products, including labeling, documentation, and coordination with the shipping dock.

+ Complete all required production and quality documentation accurately and promptly, following strict quality assurance programs.

+ Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of facilities, clean rooms, and equipment to maintain a safe and compliant work area.

+ Participate in necessary training and continuing education to maintain and enhance technical and regulatory knowledge.

+ Demonstrate effective communication with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other team members.

+ Contribute to a collaborative team environment by proactively seeking ways to help colleagues and support workflow.

+ Maintain a strong focus on quality, productivity, safety, and security in all aspects of work.

+ Follow written instructions and standard operating procedures and use sound reasoning to solve routine problems.

Essential Skills

+ Experience or interest in working in a pharmacy or pharmaceutical production environment.

+ Knowledge of or exposure to compounding processes and sterile production practices.

+ Ability to accurately perform data entry related to production, inventory, and documentation.

+ Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification as required.

+ High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

+ Ability to write routine reports and documentation with attention to detail and accuracy.

+ Ability to perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and use of measurements.

+ Common-sense reasoning skills to carry out instructions and solve practical problems in a production setting.

+ Effective communication skills to work within a large team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

+ Demonstrated dependability, planning and organizing abilities, and a strong focus on quality and productivity.

+ Awareness of safety and security procedures and willingness to follow them consistently.

+ Ability to become licensed as a pharmacy technician through the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy upon offer.

+ Valid driver's license upon offer.

+ Ability to work safely with amoxicillin and penicillin-like antibiotics without allergic reactions.

Skills & Qualifications

+ Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) is highly valued.

+ Previous experience in a compounding pharmacy or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is beneficial.

+ Comfort operating production equipment such as powder machines and grinding devices.

+ Strong attention to detail when measuring, weighing, and documenting materials.

+ Proactive, team-oriented mindset, with a track record of seeking out ways to support colleagues, as verified by references.

+ Interest in supporting a growing pharmaceutical operation in a rural setting.

+ Commitment to ongoing training and continuing education to stay current with industry standards and best practices.

Work Environment

The role is based in a pharmaceutical production facility that includes multiple departments, clean rooms, and a shipping dock. You typically work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a schedule centered around daytime production operations. The majority of the team consists of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, creating a collaborative environment where everyone helps out where needed. Work is performed in cleanroom areas and production spaces that require adherence to strict cleanliness, safety, and equipment-handling protocols.
