Training/Arrival Period (Required):

  • Move-in to the Residence Halls, Wednesday, September 2nd; 4:00 p.m.

    - 10:00 p.m.
  • Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m.

    - 7:00 p.m.
  • New Student Move-in:
    Friday, September 4; 7:00 a.m.

    - 3:00 p.m.
  • Move-in Transition:
    Saturday, September 5 - Sunday, September 6
  • Dates without time frames will be defined for the staff member during the Training.

Description/Purpose of the Position:
This position serves as a peer communication resource to residents and support for the Residence Life Team. Understanding the unique blend of skills and qualities that empower an individual in the role of a housing ambassador assistant is critical to fostering effective brand representation. These individuals not only carry a sense of responsibility towards the brands they partner with, but also embody traits like adaptability and knowledgeability that set them apart as influential promoters in today's ever-evolving market landscape.

    Sharing personal campus stories and guiding residents through housing concerns clearly
  • Teamwork & Independence:
    Working closely with staff on group events while managing solo media projects with little supervision
  • Content Creation:
    Learning how to capture high-quality photos and videos for campus social media accounts
  • Time Management:
    Balancing daily student support tasks, event tabling, and marketing deadlines accurately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Events and Programming:
    • Create positive experiences through networking events, marketing initiatives, and programming
    • Promote the office through identified clothing, tabling, presentations, and assist in hosting events on and off campus
    • Participate in department and college events with Residence Life Professional Staff
  • Data and Feedback:
    • Assist in collecting feedback, both quantitative and qualitative, to support departmental changes
  • Social Media and Marketing:
    • Edit and post creative and engaging content on social media to build awareness around the on-campus living experience
  • Student Support:
    • Assist and guide follow-up with individual residents and groups with on-campus living concerns.

    Requirements of This Position (Education):

    • Must be enrolled in a degree program f College during the academic year and maintain good standing in academics and conduct
    • Must maintain a cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5. If a student staff member's GPA (semester/cumulative) falls below 2.5, their retention will be based on individual consultation
    • Students should have no pending cases, active sanctions, and/or resolved cases that would prevent effective performance as student staff members
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check after hire.

    Qualifications (Experience/Skills):

    • Interest in learning about marketing, branding, and communications.
    • Interest in understanding the needs of college-age students, residents of St. Olaf College, and student supporters
    • Comfort level with social media and willingness to learn
    • Interest in developing excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability and willingness to address conflict and challenges within the public in a meaningful manner
    • Ability and willingness to share personal stories of life f College
    • Interest in understanding and communicating the connection between residence life, on-campus living, and the college experience
    • Flexible and adaptable communication and engagement delivery to the space and the targeted audience
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Residence Life staff and student leaders
