Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the delivery of individualized patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice as defined by Ridgeview Medical Center, the Minnesota Nurse Practice Standards Act, and the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
Job Functions- Assesses patient health problems needs and develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans accordingly.
- Provides nursing care.
- Advise and educate patients, family members and significant others on health maintenance and disease prevention for the patient.
- Document and maintain accurate medical records and reports.
- Manage and be accountable for Controlled Substances (NARC counts).
- Participate in quality improvement activities as appropriate to position.
- Serve as a patient advocate in seeking appropriate community resources to meet patient needs.
- Interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers, other healthcare providers, and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice.
- Demonstrate competencies in the specialty areas of Med/Surg.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Manage flow of patients through inpatient and/or outpatient departments.
- Assign resources to care for patients and arrange staffing to ensure safe patient care.
- Provide work direction and address issues during the shift.
- Act as a liaison between staff, patients, and providers.
- Demonstrate unit specific Charge Nurse competencies.
- Review providers orders.
- Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process.
- BLS certification.
- 1 or more years of acute care experience in RN role.
- ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or CALS within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making.
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment.
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team, including during cares, admitting, discharge planning.
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- 1-3 years of Medical Surgical Nursing.
- TNCC or CALS.
- ACLS.
- PALS or ENPC.
- CEN.
- CMSRN.
