This position works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit/department according to unit policies and procedures.
- Provide supervision of non‑RN personnel on the assigned unit.
- When assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities.
- May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.
- Assess the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
- Develop, communicate, and document a plan of care reflecting individualized patient problems and interventions to achieve desired outcomes, involving the patient, family, and healthcare team.
- Implement and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care, patient response to care, and readiness for discharge; revise the plan as needed and make referrals where indicated.
- Plan for education after assessing the individual learning needs and readiness of the patient and family; provide educational opportunities and document outcomes.
- Function as a preceptor to new staff.
- Function as a charge nurse.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self development as outlined in performance review.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
- Demonstrate competency in the care and assessment of neuro patients, airway management of neuro patients, caring for a trached patient, assisting the physician and caring for the patient during special neuro procedures, knowledge of the "Tia" teaching program, perform pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning, use of equipment and care of patient in a halo brace, and nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on a ventilator.

Qualifications- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Experience: Must possess a valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.

Proficient in use of computer software to include electronic patient records; must have ability to use Internet for literature searches regarding care for patients.
Smilow Ambulatory Multispecialty Department YSC (NP 1, NP4, NP8). This department is rooted in oncology nursing excellence and serves as a hub for patients undergoing cancer treatment and management for solid tumor cancers. The core philosophy is to provide multidisciplinary and comprehensive cancer care to patients and their support system, ensuring that patients receive advanced medical and surgical treatments as well as critical support services to navigate their cancer journey effectively.
