DescriptionUnder the direction of the Director of Surgery, the Surgery Specialist/LPN performs delegated and independent functions to support the operational, scheduling, patient communication, and coordination needs of the perioperative department. This role combines administrative coordination responsibilities with supportive patient care and workflow assistance to promote efficient surgical operations and patient satisfaction.
General ResponsibilitiesThe Surgery Specialist/LPN serves as a primary point of contact for surgery patients throughout the scheduling and preparation process, assisting with referrals, prior authorizations, scheduling coordination, patient education, chart review, and communication between providers, staff, and patients. The position also provides limited clinical and workflow support to the surgery department, including assisting with patient turnover, room readiness, stocking, transport, and supportive patient care activities within scope of practice and competency.
The position requires a high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, providers, and others. The Surgery Specialist/LPN contributes to the mission and goals of CCM Health and the Surgery Department and meets the requirements of federal, state, local, and accrediting agencies.
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program required.
- Current Minnesota LPN license required.
- Current Basic Life Support certification required.
- Healthcare, clinic, surgery, or scheduling experience preferred.
- Experience with staffing, scheduling, prior authorizations, and patient coordination preferred.
- Experience with Epic and Microsoft Office programs preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Friendly and courteous personality.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage interruptions.
- Excellent communication skills including telephone, verbal, and written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, providers, patients, and the public.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Basic understanding of insurance regulations and CMS guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive information.
- Flexibility to assist with changing workflow needs.
- Ability to assist with patient care activities within the scope of practice and competency.
- Utilizes AIDET when communicating with others (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You).
