The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/ planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. The RN collaborates with residents, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. They demonstrate competency and practice within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilize appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
Responsibilities include caring for residents in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment. The RN coordinates care, conducts resident assessments, provides resident education, and performs various nursing interventions. The RN may serve as charge nurse, delegate appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel within the scope of the job, provide support, and ensure safe, reliable administration of resident care and resolution of concerns.
Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure.
- Graduated from an accredited school or college of nursing;
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. - Attendance of a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan as part of the curriculum.
- Or minimum of 400 hours of experience as an RN (or LPN) at another facility.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
- Requirement of licensure in any state where nursing practice occurs over the telephone.
- Certification may be required depending on specialty or service area.
