Clinic Information

  • Granite City clinic address: 1111 Second St. South, Waite Park, MN 56387
  • Clinic hours:
    Monday–Saturday 5am–6pm, closed Sunday
  • Rotating days/shifts, 8–12 hours per day
  • No previous dialysis experience needed; on the job training is provided
Position Overview

Dialysis Technician to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under RN supervision. Responsibilities include direct patient care, administration of treatments, monitoring, documentation, and emergency response.

Primary Responsibilities Patient Related
  • Provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s).
  • Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures as prescribed and administer and monitor treatments in accordance with the current treatment plan or supervisor instructions.
  • Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on dialysis flow sheets; record related information in the individual patient record.
  • Report any significant information, change in patient condition, or equipment problems to the supervisor.
  • Assist in developing and following the teaching plan to educate the patient and family regarding end‑stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications.
  • Assist with all emergency operational procedures.
  • Administer intravenous medication per physician orders and state nurse practice laws.
  • Perform and document pre‑, interim, and post‑treatment review of patient condition.
  • Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest and respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment.
Technical
  • Safely operate all dialysis‑related equipment according to proper procedures.
  • Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in the dialysis facility treatment area.
  • Ensure all blood spills are immediately addressed per blood borne pathogen control policies.
  • Operate all emergency equipment effectively according to standard operating procedures.
Staff Related
  • Participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist in short‑term and long‑term patient care plan meetings.
  • Acquire knowledge of current dialysis practices and techniques by attending scheduled in‑service classes.
  • Act as a resource for other staff members and coordinate care plan with physician, dietitian, and social worker.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Day‑to‑day work includes desk and computer work, patient interaction, and facility support. The position requires heavy lifting and patient assistance, frequent prolonged periods of standing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 200 lbs with assistance or up to 30 lbs alone. Travel between facilities and meetings may be required. The environment is a health‑care facility with regulated temperature and moderate noise;

exposure to infectious materials may occur.

Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN/LVN)
  • Current state licensure
Experience and Required Skills
  • Preferred one year of medical‑surgical nursing experience
  • Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required
  • ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Complete a hemodialysis theory and practice training course
  • Complete CPR certification
  • Complete the Nurse Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter
  • Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during short‑staffing or as required
  • Meet Ishihara’s Color Blindness test requirements as a condition of employment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Rate: $23.00 - $37.00
