Cura of Le Sueur is seeking a strong, hands‑on Director of Nursing to lead our nursing team and help shape the future of resident care in our community. Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) oversees all nursing services and total resident care within the facility. The DON ensures compliance with State of Minnesota and Federal regulations, facility policies, and best practices—while fostering a safe, dignified, and resident‑centered environment.

This role is both strategic and operational, requiring leadership presence, clinical expertise, and strong communication across all departments.

Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter

This position is a mandated reporter under Minnesota law. The DON must report any suspected maltreatment, neglect, or abuse of vulnerable adults to the Administrator and appropriate state agencies.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Leadership & Operations

  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate all nursing services (RNs, LPNs, and NARs)
  • Develop and maintain nursing service objectives, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and proper scheduling for all shifts
  • Participate in facility planning, budgeting, and operational decision‑making
  • Act on behalf of the Administrator when necessary, per organizational structure
  • Be available (or designate availability) for emergencies at all times

Staffing & Team Development

  • Hire, train, evaluate, discipline, and terminate nursing staff as needed
  • Maintain current licensure verification for all licensed nursing personnel
  • Conduct ongoing nursing meetings, including engagement across all three shifts
  • Resolve staff conflicts and promote teamwork and accountability

Resident Care & Compliance

  • Ensure resident care plans are established, reviewed quarterly, and updated as needed
  • Review admissions and assist physicians with ongoing care planning
  • Participate in resident selection based on nursing needs and staff competencies
  • Ensure nursing documentation is accurate, timely, and reflective of care provided
  • Oversee narcotic and barbiturate handling and documentation
  • Report accidents, incidents, and dereliction of duties per policy
  • Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and all State/Federal regulations

Collaboration & Communication

  • Maintain strong working relationships with physicians, therapy, dietary, and all departments
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, leadership, and visitors
  • Demonstrate tact, integrity, sound judgment, and professionalism in all situations

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly manages RNs, LPNs, and NARs
  • Oversees the overall coordination and performance of the nursing department
  • Plans, assigns, and prioritizes work
  • Conducts performance evaluations and corrective actions
  • Ensures compliance with labor laws, facility policies, and regulatory standards

  • Active RN license in the State of Minnesota
  • Proven leadership experience in skilled nursing or long‑term care
  • Strong knowledge of clinical standards, care planning, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to lead with confidence, accountability, and empathy
  • Excellent communication, organization, and decision‑making skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (or ability to quickly acquire skills)
  • Dependable, ethical, punctual, and team‑oriented leadership style
