The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident per the care plan. The NA is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use.
Responsibilities include daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, vital‑sign recording, psychosocial support, assistance with transfers, repositioning, walking, range of motion and passive exercises, food preparation, dining, housekeeping, laundry, wellness and recreational programs, and participation in departmental/organization committees as needed.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required within four months of hire or enrollment in a training program.
- Maintain yearly competency testing and 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Maintain all department‑specific required certifications.
- When required by state, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person Registry.
- May be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a valid driver’s license and vehicle report, and be medically qualified to perform driving functions.
