** Job Summary**---The Registered Nurse
- Emergency Department, provides immediate, high-quality care to patients in emergency situations within a Critical Access Hospital, utilizing a unique blend of skills and a comprehensive scope of practice. Assesses, stabilizes, and treats a wide variety of patients, from minor injuries to critical, life-threatening emergencies.  
• Triages and assesses patients upon arrival to determine acuity  
• Administers medications, treatments, and emergency interventions  
• Monitors and documents patient status and vital signs  
• Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams  
• Prepares patients for transfer or admission as needed  
• Participates in emergency preparedness drills and protocols  
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in EHR/Epic systems  
• Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple priorities and organize workload; including critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.  
• The capacity to make quick, sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment is critical as is the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and a small, tight-knit interdisciplinary team, often coordinating care across different departments or external transfer facilities.

- • Completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication, and physical assessment  
• Takes a brief history to include allergies and current medications.  
• Identifies nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care  
• Interprets reports and records and utilizes data in assessment and care planning  
• Ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders  
• Administers medications including, but not limited to: oral, injectable, intravenous solutions, and blood components. Administers medications and IV fluids as prescribed and utilized the five rights of medication administration for safety  
• Performs venipuncture and starts IV's according to current procedures and infection control policies  
• Utilizes emergency department equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures  
• Complies and assists others to comply with established policies and procedures for safety and infection control when observing and/or giving direct patient care  
• Sets priorities according to patient needs (triage).  
• Identifies total patient care needs and utilizes appropriate resources to assist in meeting those needs.  
• Systematically assesses cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurologic condition of the patient. Utilizes ABC's in setting priority for emergency care. Directs, delegates, and serves as a resource for nursing care  
• Collaborates with patients, families and other health-care team members to identify discharge-teaching needs  
• Considers the physical, social, psychological, spiritual, age-related and developmental needs of the patient/family  
• Initiates and documents discharge and transfer planning; facilitates patient centered communication and care  
• Communicates professionally and effectively with patients, families, coworkers, other health-care team members and ancillary departments to ensure coordination of care  
• Gives accurate, objective, and complete oral report to oncoming nurse.  
• Maintains open and effective communication with the medical staff.  
• Documents on the Emergency Department record in a manner that is appropriate, legible, informative, accurate, and concise…
