Summary

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner provides clinical care to newborns at Northfield Hospital, including the assessment, supervision, and treatment of newborn infants. The care includes providing high-quality, evidence-based, efficient, and timely patient and family-centered care using a systems-based approach with the ability to prioritize patient needs. The Neonatal NP will both round and manage care. The NP is part of the interdisciplinary care team which ensures optimal patient care is provided.

In the nursery at Northfield Hospital, over 700 babies are born each year, receiving nurturing, family-centered care in the Birth Center. The Nurse Practitioner will provide independent advanced level expertise to neonates from admission through discharge. Provide continuity between physician and medical team members and education and guidance to parents.

Compensation

We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. This position has a flat rate, with compensation based on market analysis and other role and internalfactors. The hourly shift rate is $88.00. This reflects the base salary for this position.

Key Accountabilities

Serve as the primary caregiver to newborn infants in the nursery and birth center. Providing quality medical services for patients by ensuring safe, quality, and effective care is provided, including implementation of optimal clinical care, best practice and high service delivery.

Assess, diagnose, and carry out procedures and medical tests in the care of newborn infants.

Develop treatment plans for infants with complex health issues.

Prescribing medication on your own authority and with the agreement of the pediatric physicians.

Respond to quality of care concerns and/or questions. Collaborate with medical partners and to ensure quality outcome indicators are met and participate in review and implementation of solutions responding to patient satisfaction survey results.

Promote a positive culture within the work environment that supports the work of physicians and staff, enabling them to deliver excellent patient care.

Ensure proactive and responsive communication with key staff, and organization leaders, while working cooperatively with all medical staff. Act as a liaison and contact for area of responsibility as partnership with other NH&C departments to ensure optimal patient care.

Oversees training of new employees and mentors staff.

Support the work of the broader organization by ensuring operational success, including but not limited to implementation and ongoing success of operational improvements; compliance efforts; including coding and business compliance and other regulatory / licensing efforts; support for IS initiatives and improvements.

Ensure a successful newborn program including: collaborating with pediatric providers to ensure standard practice for optimal care; follow consistent operational processes in coordination with other disciplines; and provide feedback and coaching to staff to ensure optimal care.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in nursing from a Registered Nurse Practitioner program

Current RN license with the MN Board of Nursing, in good standing

Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Minnesota

Three years’ experience in a NICU

Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise good judgement

Flexibility to work long shifts, often 24-hour shifts.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and BLS Certifications (or ability to obtain within six months of hire)

Ability to manage and mediate multiple priorities and conflicting interests, preferred

Strong written and oral communication skills, preferred

Schedule

24-hour call coverage (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM) in the Birth Center

8 required 24-hour call shifts per month

Every fourth weekend rotation
