The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, performs competency‑based care, and utilizes age‑ and population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of residents as per care plans.
The LPN evaluates data to identify resident status and delivers necessary care, recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to emergencies. Responsibilities include ensuring the health, comfort, and safety of residents; contributing to resident assessment; administering medications or treatments as ordered; providing technical support to healthcare professionals; documenting resident interactions and outcomes; establishing effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public;
communicating clearly while maintaining confidentiality; counseling residents, families, and advocates on prevention and treatment plans; developing self‑care programs; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse. An associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, the candidate must have graduated from a Board‑approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completed an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan as part of the curriculum or have a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
The candidate must currently hold an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the state nursing board and/or possess multi‑state licensure privileges. The candidate must complete required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training for the department and facility.
