Salary: $47-$50 an hour

Not all nursing paths are the same—some are uniquely rewarding. As a Licensed School Nurse, you will play a critical role in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students while supporting families, staff, and the school community.

This position provides leadership and oversight of the school health program and is responsible for ensuring that health services, policies, procedures, and practices are implemented in accordance with Minnesota laws, regulations, and professional standards.

The Licensed School Nurse works collaboratively with students, families, school administrators, teachers, special education staff, healthcare providers, and community resources to support student health and academic success.

What You’ll Do

As the Licensed School Nurse, you will provide comprehensive school nursing services and oversee the school’s health program, including:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of school health policies, procedures, protocols, and practices.
  • Ensure school health policies and procedures comply with applicable Minnesota statutes, regulations, and Department of Education and Department of Health requirements.
  • Provide professional nursing services to students throughout the school year.
  • Assess student health needs and develop, implement, and monitor appropriate health plans and interventions.
  • Manage and coordinate health services for students with acute, chronic, and complex health conditions.
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Health Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and other appropriate student health documentation.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate communication and care with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, and other members of the student's educational team.
  • Provide health education and promote health, wellness, prevention, and safety throughout the school community.
  • Provide consultation and education to school staff regarding student health conditions, medications, emergency procedures, infection control, and other health-related concerns.
  • Oversee and maintain student health records and ensure documentation is accurate, current, confidential, and maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for communicable disease prevention and management.
  • Provide guidance regarding student immunization requirements and health screenings.
  • Coordinate and/or oversee required student health screenings and follow-up.
  • Respond appropriately to student illnesses, injuries, emergencies, and other health concerns.
  • Collaborate with school administration regarding emergency preparedness and response procedures.
  • Serve as a resource to school staff regarding health-related accommodations and student needs.
  • Participate in special education meetings, Section 504 meetings, and other student support meetings when appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school health program and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competency through continuing education and professional development.
  • Perform other duties related to school health services as assigned.
A Few Must-Haves
  • Current Licensed School Nurse (LSN)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Current Public Health Nurse (PHN) registration through the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Knowledge of Minnesota school health requirements, nursing standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with students, families, school staff, healthcare providers, and administrators.
  • Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and protecting sensitive health information.
