Yourday to day as a Quality Investigation Specialist
The Quality Investigation Specialist supports the site quality system by leading the intake, investigation, documentation, and resolution of quality incidents, including customer complaints, deviations, and nonconformances. This role focuses on day-to-day investigation execution such as fact gathering, record review, root cause determination, documentation, and trending. The position works cross-functionally to ensure issues are clearly understood, appropriately escalated when required, and resolved in a timely and compliant manner to support food safety, quality compliance, and continuous improvement.
EssentialDuties and responsibilities
- Receive, document, and manage quality incidents including customer complaints, internal deviations, and quality events.
- Conduct and document quality investigations using evidence-based approaches including record review, production history, laboratory data, and on-floor observations.
- Assess investigation findings to determine risk level and whether escalation to Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) is required.
- Clearly document investigation conclusions, supporting evidence, and rationale for closure.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation, Supply Chain) to gather information and support investigation activities.
- Maintain investigation records in an organized, audit-ready format in accordance with site procedures and SQF requirements.
- Track investigation timelines and communicate status updates to Quality leadership; upscale overdue or high-risk issues as needed.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits by retrieving investigation records and providing summaries as requested.
- Trend investigation data (issue type, source, recurrence, closure time) and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Follow applicable procedures for nonconforming product handling and related quality records as required by site programs.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience in Quality, Food Safety, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment (food manufacturing preferred).
- Working knowledge of quality investigations, root cause analysis, and controlled documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in food science, Biology, Chemistry, Quality, or related discipline.
- Experience in SQF/GFSI, FDA, or USDA-regulated environments.
- Familiarity with CAPA processes and quality management systems (QMS).
- Experience supporting customer-facing quality responses and third-party audits.

Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment.
- Ability to access production areas for investigations and follow-up.
- Must be able to spend time in production areas including cold, hot, or humid environments.
- Position requires the ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- This position requires the ability and willingness to perform duties at either of the company's manufacturing sites based on operational needs.
