Assistant or fixed-term associate professor in geoinformatics (tenure track)
We are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic individual for a full-time, tenure track position in the Geoinformatics (GIS) research group, with a focus on photogrammetry and laser scanning. More details about Aalto University’s tenure track career path can be found below.
The position and our expectations
The Geoinformatics Group at Aalto University conducts multidisciplinary research that spans built and natural environments. Our current research encompasses a wide range of themes, from geodesy and positioning to geoinformation technology (spatial data science) and remote sensing. We have a strong track record of securing competitive funding from the Research Council of Finland, the European Research Council and private foundations, and we are currently part of a Finnish Center of Excellence in research and a major national research infrastructure (Geoportti).

Geoinformatics at Aalto University . The research environment offers opportunities for collaboration with Aalto University’s Research Institute of Measuring and Modeling for the Built Environment, which works in close-range sensing and laser scanning and maintains related infrastructure.
We wish to recruit an ambitious scientist with original ideas who can contribute to ground-breaking research and teaching in the field of photogrammetry and laser scanning. We welcome candidates pursuing diverse and innovative research directions in photogrammetry and laser scanning that complement the work of our current faculty. The successful candidate will already have:
- a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., engineering, physics, geoinformatics);
- strong expertise in quantitative methods in both photogrammetry and laser scanning;
- a research profile in novel photogrammetry and/or laser-scanning methods, covering close-range data analysis and instrumentation, and ideally complemented by experience with airborne or satellite platforms and real-time applications;
- a record of recent, high-quality scientific publications in photogrammetry and/or laser scanning, in which the candidate has played a leading role;
- well-developed collaboration skills and an excellent command of English.
During the selection procedure, preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more, and ideally several, of the following:
- evidence of original and independent scientific thinking, and a proven capacity for independent intellectual contribution
- experience in acquiring academic competitive research funding
- experience working across different research environments
- experience of research cooperation with industrial partners
