Role Overview
The Research Associate II – Plant Delivery is a full‑time, on‑site position located at our Cambridge, MA site. In this role, you will be an independent contributor to science projects focused on improving gene editing outcomes in plants through plant transformation methods and tissue culture.
Key Responsibilities- Perform experiments independently and with cross‑functional teams related to plant transformation and tissue culture.
- Optimize established plant transformation/transient plant assays and develop new assays.
- Conduct experiments exploring novel methods for plant gene editing and transformation.
- Collaborate with scientists and other research associates to test new technologies and increase quality and throughput.
- Drive ideation, troubleshoot experimental protocols, implement solutions, and communicate results and next‑step recommendations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records and report scientific results.
- Develop, author, and execute standard operating procedures for new methods and train end users.
- Work effectively in a fast‑paced environment to deliver results on high‑risk and established assays.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 3+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree in agriculture, plant biology, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in plant transformation and tissue culture, including Agrobacterium culture preparation.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique and media preparation.
- Ability to learn new technologies and develop protocols, and effectively communicate findings.
- Adaptable, enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about high‑impact solutions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong organization, time‑management, and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in molecular and/or wet‑lab techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, or next‑generation sequencing workflows.
- Experience with LIMS or ELN systems such as Benchling.
- Experience with laboratory automation and next‑generation sequencing automation (MiSeq, Nanopore).
- Experience with gene editing and CRISPR‑Cas technologies.
- Experience with tissue culture techniques in major crops (soybean, corn, wheat).
- Salary range: $59,410 – $81,700, based on qualifications and experience.
- Pay components: base salary, short‑term incentive, long‑term equity, and one‑time new hire stock option grant.
