Description

Job Purpose:

The Meat Clerk at Hugo's Family Marketplace is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining the quality and presentation of meat products, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. This role involves assisting customers, managing inventory, and supporting the overall operations of the meat department.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist customers with inquiries and purchases, providing knowledgeable and friendly service. Wrap, label, weigh, and price meat products accurately and efficiently. Stock meat cases, ensuring products are rotated and displayed attractively. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the meat department, adhering to food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control standards. Assist with basic meat preparation tasks as trained, ensuring quality and consistency. Operate department equipment safely and correctly, following all safety guidelines.

Ensure proper storage of meat products to maintain freshness and quality. Collaborate with team members to achieve department goals and maintain a positive work environment.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Preferred Education:

Some coursework or training in food safety, meat handling, or culinary basics Helpful

Certifications:

Food safety certification (as required by local regulations)

Required Experience:

No prior meat department experience required Willingness to learn meat handling, sanitation, and equipment use

Preferred Experience:

1–2 years of experience in a meat department, deli, grocery, or food service setting

Experience with wrapping, labeling, weighing, and stocking meat products Familiarity with meat department equipment (scales, grinders, wrappers) Required

Skills and Abilities:

Customer service and communication Meat handling and storage procedures Attention to detail and accuracy Ability to follow food safety and sanitation standards Physical stamina (standing, lifting, working in cold environments) Teamwork and reliability Time management and organization
