POSTION OBJECTIVETo provide child protection assessment and investigations with the possibility of limited case management services to families to ameliorate safety and risk issues. This position serves the objective of providing eligible activities within the IV-E child welfare post graduate training program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Completing Child Protection Investigations
- Assess safety of and risk to children in child protection reports
- Provide emergency services, including safety planning for families and children.
- Assess need for services to families and children.
- Identify appropriate services for clients.
- Provide court work to include reports to the court, monitoring of conditions of court order, offering testimony, working with the County Attorney, coordination with defense counsel, complete memorandums for petitions.
- Provide information and referral for services for families.
- Serve as a team member on the Multidisciplinary Child Protection Team.
- Ability to do on-call after hours work. This may require phone or in person client contact. Chisago County provides child protection services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Provide case management services as needed.
- Participate in training and necessary meetings as requested or required.
- Employee must have demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a wide variety of computer programs and systems.
- Must be able to maintain positive working relationship with County Attorney, County Administration, Department Administrative team, and other county and community committees, State offices of the State of Minnesota for miscellaneous programs.
- Demonstrates adherence to and knowledge of HIPAA and Data Practices in work assignments.
- Follow County and Department Policies and Procedures.
- Keeps and maintains automobile insurance and valid driver’s license at all times.
- Other Duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Social Work degree. Master of Social Work preferred OR
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in any field and one year of experience as a social worker in a public or private social services agency.
Preference may be given to applicants with previous child protection experience and/or applicants who have successfully completed the Child Welfare Specialization within their degree program, including a field placement within a child protection/child welfare setting that serves IV-E eligible families.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to manage issues/challenges of working in a Child Protection environment.

- Ability to manage one’s own workload effectively, efficiently and independently, achieving results within acceptable time frames taking into consideration changing priorities.
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict and apply dispute resolution procedures, problem solving and negotiation skills in an effective and collaborative manner.
