Position Overview
DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting a Casework Management Specialist I in the Ely Child Welfare office. Under close supervision, incumbents function in a trainee capacity, learning to determine social service needs of clients, develop appropriate solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management services. Advancement to the next level may occur after meeting the minimum qualification, satisfactory performance, and endorsement of the appointing authority.
The incumbent provides child welfare services to children and families, developing and implementing case plans that present intervention strategies to meet the child's needs; ensures children's medical, mental health and educational needs are met; and provides strength‑based, family‑centered case management services that promote the safety, well‑being and permanency of children, including home visits, monitoring services, report preparation and record keeping.
- Develop, manage and implement case plans and safety plans by interviewing clients, family members, collaterals, court stakeholders and care providers to support safety, permanency and well‑being of assigned clientele.
- Assess individuals/clients using agency‑approved assessment tools, identify social service needs and advise clients of their service‑related rights and responsibilities.
- Identify goals, develop strategies, review client history, recommend changes and remediate deficits, providing intervention strategies.
- Assist care providers in learning techniques to enhance the care provider/client relationship and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan.
- Apply evidence‑based practices to change behavior and ensure client goals are accomplished; review plan with client and family/care provider and revise as needed.
- Monitor client and family progress, coordinate resources, make referrals to other service providers and community resources, assist clients in obtaining financial assistance.
- Coordinate services with outside agency service providers; consult with clinicians, social workers, medical personnel, vendors, contractors, school districts, courts, public agencies and community organizations.
- Serve as motivator and negotiator to resolve service delivery issues and utilize crisis intervention to manage angry, hostile or combative clients.
- Conduct assessments, conduct home visits, monitor follow‑up services, arrange transportation for appointments and community assistance services.
- Prepare reports for court on family function recommendations, monitor providers and quality of living environment, train care providers, review billing forms and assist clients with program eligibility.
- Document case activities, client contact and progress; prepare and submit written reports to courts and other federal and state agencies; provide information to treatment/team members and other professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams, staff committees, task forces and other meetings; meet with community professionals to develop program awareness and partnerships.
- Attend in‑service training, workshops, seminars and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, special education, human growth and development, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, gerontology, or a closely related social science or human services field.
