Eligibility Worker - Norman

Norman County Social Services (Ada, MN) is hiring a full‑time Eligibility Worker (35 hours per week).

• Conduct initial eligibility interviews and verify client information.
• Determine eligibility and benefit amounts for various income maintenance programs such as cash, food, medical, and child care assistance.
• Explain application procedures to individuals or groups and answer questions.
• Communicate program time limits, expectations, and requirements to clients.
• Advise clients on viable life options and promote self‑sufficiency.
• Determine eligibility for managed health care enrollment and resolve related questions.
• Enter data into county and state computer systems and retrieve information.
• Re‑determine eligibility and benefit amounts based on client status changes.
• Maintain complete and accurate records for all assigned programs.
• Provide information to child support, employment services, and other staff.
• Advise clients on case status and refer them to programs and community resources.
• Respond to client complaints and inform on appeal and legal rights.
• Prepare case files for appeal hearings and provide testimony.
• Assist law enforcement and the county attorney’s office with prosecution cases.
• Make referrals to social services when appropriate.
• Coordinate with community resources as assigned.
• Contribute to development and evaluation of unit policies and procedures.
• Compose correspondence and construct reports as needed.

• Three (3) years of clerical experience and/or public‑facing experience, or equivalent combination.
• Two (2) years of clerical experience in a social services/human services agency, or
• Two (2) years of study at an accredited college with emphasis in behavioral sciences, business, or related subjects (at least 23 quarter or 16 semester credits).
• Successful completion of a technical college Human Services Eligibility Worker diploma program within the last six months, or
• Completion of the Human Services Eligibility Worker certificate program to substitute for one year of required experience.
• Must pass an online examination covering arithmetic, eligibility determination, and reading comprehension. A passing score is retained on the eligible list for up to six months.
