Pay Range: $22.00 to $30.36.
Shift: Monday-Friday, 5am start time.
Job SummaryDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycling facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service for containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing over 1,000 pounds, and maneuver containers to a pick‑up stage area.
They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compacting containers from customer locations, navigating tight overhead environments on industrial routes while performing precise backing maneuvers.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws.
- Perform pre and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Inform Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions such as closed or impassable streets, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- CDL Class A with air‑brake endorsement upon hire, or CDL Class B with air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
